I have no purpose in life . Need advice on setting goals and focusing on them?

I am 26 years old and have recently graduated with a degree in computer science. I have been working in a law firm for the past six months, managing their computer network. While the experience has been good and I have learnt a lot, I can't seem to help feeling that I am stuck in a rut. I am going into life with no purpose or sense of direction. I have no idea where I'll be in ten years from now. I don't feel passionate about anything and my interests keep changing from time to time. I need some advice as to how I can buckle down and bring some kind of structure to my life. I need to know how I can set goals for myself and stay focused on them till I have achieved them. An urgent response is required. THANK YOU.I have no purpose in life . Need advice on setting goals and focusing on them?
i am glad that you are looking for this answer. Of course i could have helped you much better if i could have one to one interaction with you. Anyways, i will like to give you some good tips that will help.

Please understand, God has send us with some objective. One of the biggest challanges however is to find out why we are on this earth. When you will find that, what ever you do to fullfil that spiritual objective, you will feel passionate about it.

One day sit down quietly. MAke a list of all those things that you think you enjoying doing. I am not talking about acquired skills like your computer knowledge, but the one that are natural. It may be that, you enjoy talking, or writing, or you can motivate people, or that you have a burning desire to become wealthy, or yu like to help people selflessly... it could be anything. Just think hard and you will get it. Record it dwon on a piece of paper.

Then find out those avenues where this latent talent of yours can be use, you will find i am sure, and then you will have a goal in your life. But friend give yourself time.

Read a lot books like See you on the Top by Zig Ziglar, Success Journey by John Maxwell, Who moved my chesse by Dr. Spenser Johnson, Thing and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill.

If you contact me i can send you a CD that has a wonder ful recording. That will change your life. My contact id is vivek_ray@yahoo.com

All the bestI have no purpose in life . Need advice on setting goals and focusing on them?
Get out of the rut first. Free yourself from what is holding you back and then set a goal.
You do not seem to have an extraordinary problem, So cheer up first. Having no goal or thinking so, is the problem faced by many of us at some point in time of our life.

Do a swot analysis of urself, if you cannot manage to do so, take the help of ur close friends or family members who can identify ur strength/weakness, along those lines frame a target or goal for urself.

And that is not all, after doing so, put your heart and soul in it. There is no use keeping high targets and doing nothing about it. It is better you keep modest targets than impossible ones. Get real and get practical.

Have a cheerful face, look things in a positive way, discover urself, discover things that make you happy, find a reason to love and be loved. Lastly have hope, trust God.

That would be all.

All the best.
Being 26 and having a degree is a huge accomplishment. Many people will change their careers at least once in their lifetime. So don't worry, this could lead you to something bigger and better. If you feel you are stuck in a rut, try finding new interests, or doing new things, such as local sports. Try meeting new people who enjoy the sames things you do.

As for setting goals and sticking to them, you need to figure out what you want in the next five years. A house? A new car? A spouse? Children? When you decide where it is your life is taking you (and you will do this by the above suggestions), write it out on how you will accomplish these things. Follow your path to sucess and keep positive that yu will reach your goal.
You should have a Chrystal clear career plan for yourself.

Put a long term plan, then divide it to steps...for example, say you should have your own business, computer science is a good career , also in your plan you should get married and have kids,if you are not yet.etc....

Good luck
Set short term and long term goals. Make sure you don't set too many or make them unreachable or you will discourage yourself. Reward yourself when you reach a goal and continue on. Re-set goals as you meet them. Re-evaluate at 6 months and 12 months, etc. Maybe work toward things that interest you but make sure you are well rounded or else you will burn out. Make some goals personel, some professional, some family oriented, etc.
My life had no purpose untill I found God in my life.
When you set goals they need to be attainable. You need to find some interests outside work. Get some new hobbies. You will meet new people and maybe find out what you have a passion for.

Have 2 WRITTEN plans for your career life. One is short term and the other is long term. Make them about something you really want to go well in and achieve, because that is what makes you fell better about yourself. Every so often, pull out those plans and decide on a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest) if you are close to achieving that plan or not. Write down the date and the number decided on so you can keep track if you have come closer or gone further away from achieving it. Also, even though you have a job, keep a look out for better ones that you can do.
You are in a very good position you have degree in comp science don't fool yourself their are tons of companies that need you. you also have a good reference because you manage there comp network.don't be discouraged because of your current job.Go to monster.com and post your resume and watch the replies come pouring in.Whether you use these replies or not is up to you just do it so you will see the amount of companies who want someone just like you and give you confidence to do what you want.EVERY COMPANY NEED COMP SCIENCE just remember that and the opportunity will come.
Many people seem to miss a goal. I think is more difficult when you are not religious. But there must be a way to find a goal. People live in relation to each other. The question is: at what times do you feel happy with helping people? Is it when you are working on an abstract goal that is important for mankind? Or is it when you are able to help specific persons? THen try to find a goal around those times.

Maybe you should do a personalitytest like a enneagram. http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/Discov鈥?/a> You can discovery were you are good at and find a goal that involves the role that suits you.

I hope this works for you. Good luck. And remember: sometimes it is not the goal, but the road to that goal that counts
Read self help books is the best advice I can give you.

Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill is a book that really helped open my eyes to a whole new world. Good luck!
Well if you are 26 you have just started your professional life and being an IT expert is a good selection. Try to take one field of IT. Like if you want to be in Networking update yourself with certifications you can do CISCO or MCSE. make your goals like i do, my planes are that i will do my certification of JAVA and some experties in Server based Operating systems with in 1 years then I will do a job in my field for 3 years doesnt matter if i get a good salary or not but i will continue doing my job. in this time i will make my credit history and after 3 years i will open my software house. Now you are a networking person you can open a System support company. Simple.
You ARE following a direction. You worked through college and now you're working in the field you've spent so long preparing for. The challenge now is to deal with the change of pace in the way life comes at you after college. I graduated in 1998, and one thing I found is that being out in the real world felt really unnatural at first. You spend all those years growing up, going to school - 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, high school, college - and it felt like you were always moving toward something; the next grade, your diploma, your degree. There was always something you were working toward - clearly defined markers and milestones. And then, when you're finally out, the rules of the game change completely. Things aren't laid out before you anymore the way they were. The next Life Achievement Marker isn't clearly marked a ways down the road. A good deal of what you're facing now is simply figuring how to deal with this change of pace and the new set of rules. There's nothing wrong with where you are, unless you actually hate what you're doing, but that doesn't sound like the case. Just move forward and keep your eyes open - your career will grow with your experience and more opportunities will become available. One thing about the technology field, as well, is that it's always changing, so the best place to be ten years from now might be something you can't even imagine or plan for now. Or you could change directions a few years down the road - your tech knowledge combined with a law degree could take you down a whole new path. I think the most important thing is to be willing to move on to bigger and better things, but also be able to make the most out of where you are - and learn to enjoy it.

Learning how to appreciate life NOW... now that's a whole different challenge, but it can be done.
