I dont know why you would buy a car with that many miles on it. The best thing to do is run full synthetic oils throughout the whole car and hope for the best. Amsoil is the best, then Royal Purple, and Castrol GTX makes a high mileage oil thats decent.Im buying a 1996 mustang GT 173,000 miles. any advice to keep the life of the engine longer?
I would say Quaker State or Castrol GTX High Milage oil. Don't do the Valvoline thing, i found valvoline oils in general to be subpar.
High mileage oil..... I use Pennzoil or Valvoline.... change it every 3k miles.
You should used 10w-30, Mobil 1 full-synthetic motor oil.

If the vehicle was maintained properly, you should be ok.
I vote for GTX HM Blended
